We make these attractive raised cedar planters to take the hard labor out of growing food and to hep protect your investment by raising your edibles or flowers off the ground where they cannot be accessed by predators  and pets.  The two heights offered allow you to tend to your garden easily while standing (36”) or sitting (24”)

Their construction is made of locally harvested unstained cedar that was killed in the last decade’s fires and is rot and weather resistant.  The bottom is lined with a water permeable mesh that allows water to flow though while retaining the soil so your patio or deck will stay debris free.

Ordinary garden soil is too heavy for container gardening and will pack down. We recommend a light pre-mixed soil.. The soiless mix recommended may be used for several years.

Recommended mix:

·         1/3 peat moss ( available at most  large nurseries)

·         1/3 compost  (make your own or buy at any nursery)

·         1/3 vermiculite (available at some nurseries and Home Depots)

If you do not want to mix your own, ask your nursery person what potting soil is most like the above mix and make sure it is organic.

The Accessible Edible Planter gets air circulation from both the top and bottom, which promotes accelerated growth, but it also dries the soil out faster than in-ground planting. Water until the water drips through the bottom liner. When it stops dripping, water again. Light soil mixes take longer to absorb moisture, so the second watering assures even and complete absorption of moisture.

Select a fertilizer that is organic and appropriate for what you are growing and follow its application instructions.
