Earth Tanks : Self-Watering “farms to go” The “Earth Tank’ is a concept we developed after seeing how effective Earth Boxes are in growing vegetables. The Earth Tanks are self-watering, non-porous containers that have a reservoir in the bottom of tank which, by way of simple soil hydraulics and a wicking system, keeps the recommended soil medium moist but not wet. v they require very little labor and are easy to setup v there is no weeding, gophers, moles v they make gardening accessible …no bending and is wheelchair friendly v automatic watering….you can leave it for weeks at a time v plants are watered from below which makes moisture more accessible at root zone so plants are more productive and healthier with less water and labor v 15’’ of root zone for larger plants such as tomatoes and peppers v Shallower tank available for smaller things like lettuce and greens v can accommodate ultra dwarf fruit trees v made of 20 or 22 ga galvanized steel which has excellent corrosion resistance and expected lifespan of 10-20 years v uses a lightweight soilless medium and can be used on rooftops, placed on wheels for flexibility of design and uses v Earth Tanks come is several sizes from 2x2x4 ovals up to 2x8 diameter v They have a 5” deep water reservoir in bottom of tank that can be automatically filled and shutoff just by connecting it to a water source Environmental info Tanks made from steel have lowest overall environmental impact of other water holding tanks including concrete and plastic. Earth Tanks are a great for backyard farming because once food is harvested, the clock starts ticking on its nutritional value and live enzyme availability and if you don’t think enzymes are important,read "the Enzyme Factor" by Hiromi Shinya. Eating food picked the same day insures you get the most enzymes which are important to good helath and fighting disease. I came to the conclusion that I needed to find a way to grow my own food year-round hence, the ‘EARTH TANK’ was created and was introduce to the public at the Del Mar Fair this year in our exhibit about backyard food production. It was very well received and we were given top honors for our display and won 7 awards: Paul Ecke Sr. Award, the Sustainability Award, "Distinguished Gardens Award", "Excellence in Horticulture Award for Best Expression of Garden Education ", the Edible Garden Award, the Environmental Award, and the Pat Welsh Award for 2009.

I can supply the soiless mix and raw tanks for a very reasonable cost to locals since we buy in bulk. If you try to buy something equivalent to the soiless mix perscribed, be prepared to spend a bundle if you buy it by the bag......better to go to a local soil/ag supply and buy it by the yard if possible. THE BEST TOPSOIL IN THE WORLD WILL NOT WORK IN THESE TANKS BECAUSE IT HAS NO WICKING ABILILITY. YOU MUST USE THE MIX PERSCRIBED IN INSTRUCTIONS
